George W. Hill
Correctional Facility
The George W. Hill Correctional
Facility, formerly called Broadmeadows and then Delaware
County Prison (Official County Web Page), is located on Cheyney Road in Thornton,
PA. (Click here for

program has been operating in this prison for over 35 years.
The prison is governed by a Prison Board, which is
appointed by the Delaware
County Council. It is a minimum security facility currently housing over 1900
men, women and juveniles. It is managed by the Community Educations Centers, Inc.
Thresholds volunteers can meet
with inmates at the George W. Hill Correctional Facility during
daytime, and some evening hours. To begin working with
a Thresholds client at this facility, volunteers should contact
the Thresholds office at 610-459-9384 for information about
the next volunteer training. Dates

Security clearance is required to volunteer at this
facility.
State Correctional Institution - Chester
This state correctional facility was opened in 1998, and is one of very few prisons in the country designed and operated for the treatment and rehabilitation of addicted inmates. It has a 1,100 all male population, most of whom are nearing release.
The first Thresholds class was taught there in February, 1999 and had 9 graduates. A cycle lasts for 7 weeks, with Micro (1 on 1) classes taught at 6pm on Tuesday or Wednesday and Macro (group) classes at 6 pm on Thursdays. Five "lifers" have been trained and become Thresholds teachers.
Security clearance, an orientation session, and TB screening are required to volunteer at this facility.
The State Correctional Institution at Chester (SCI-Chester) is
located at 500 East 4th Street in Chester, PA (directions).
This facility is a state prison operated by the Pennsylvania
Department of Corrections.
Delaware County Juvenile Detention Center
This facility is for the short-term incarceration of boys and girls ages 12 to 18. Because of the short length of the stays here, Thresholds is taught on weekends and Micro and Macro classes are combined. We ask that teachers have had previous experience teaching Thresholds in an adult facility.
